Diving in Kona, Hawaii at Two-Step 2004-05-11

Yeah, happy day, I'm in Hawaii! Yay! We got up whenever. We dawdled around, making our way from the hotel to Honaunau Beach in Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park. We stopped at Kealakekua Bay to see if we could do some snorkeling and see some dolphins. As we were getting on our gear a local lady told us not to bother because the dolphins were sleeping and wouldn't be up till about 2 or 3. So we asked the stoned guy who was renting kayaks how to get to 2-step/Honaunau. He told us how to get there after trying to convince us to rent kayaks.

We spent some time looking for a place to eat, but gave up after we stopped at the ghost-town restaurant. At least they had bathrooms. :). We did two dives, about an hour a piece. We saw beautiful finger and plate corals, eels, puffers, triggers, groupers, moorish idols, and turtles. It was typical that after we were both out of film that we'd see two turtles up close. At the end of the second dive this really cool fish came right up to us, about 2 feet in front of our faces to check us out. We really only had some trail mix for lunch and skipped breakfast. On the way back we stopped at a McDonalds because in Hawaii they offer a veggie burger /and/ dipped cones! Then it was back to the shop to drop off our gear. We napped, showered, and then walked down the street to the local brewery/pizza joint. Then we walked out on the pier and bought dessert at the local ABC store. Then it was back to the hotel to sleep.
